In 2001, a huge case was made by the United States and other countries to support the invasion of Afghanistan. Now, 9 years later, many are wondering what the United States, Canada and NATO's ongoing war and occupation have really done for the people of Afghanistan. With the US government currently sending 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan, we must ask ourselves: is military intervention the answer to Afghanistan's problems? Or is it time to "Rethink Afghanistan"?

PAST EVENT

FLASH MOB in the Main Foyer

Also on Thursday, March 9:

Let's freeze in the main foyer, from about 12:20- 12:25 to demonstrate the lack of freedom of movement for Palestinians, and illustrate that Gaza has been "frozen in time" since the seige because NONE of it has been rebuilt. Uniform is all black. With your consent, we would like to tape various facts on participants so people know exactly what we are advocating.

“A Caged Bird’s Song”

Almost one third of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip are school and university students. Under Israeli occupation Palestinian education has been a constant struggle rather than a basic right. This film examines the more recent history of that struggle during Israel’s current war of attrition on the civilian population under its control.

Guest Speaker: Shawkat Hassan

A long time Palestinian activist, currently involved in many organizations including the Muslim Canadian Federation. His past work includes 20 years of work for the United Nations within Palestine.

A thought-provoking and powerful documentary film on the current and historical root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Unlike any other film ever produced on the conflict -- ‘Occupation 101’ presents a comprehensive analysis of the facts and hidden truths surrounding the never ending controversy and dispels many of its long-perceived myths and misconceptions.

“Slingshot Hip Hop”

This film braids together the stories of young Palestinians living in Gaza, the West Bank and inside Israel as they discover hip hop and employ it as a tool to surmount divisions imposed by occupation and poverty.
